The journey we had from West Yorkshire to North Yorkshire through the North Yorkshire Moors, has to be one of the most beautiful scenic journeys we have been on, it was the perfect way to keep the children entertained on route. We managed to spot all different kinds of animals including Cows, Sheeps, Pigs, Pheasants, Birds, & Horses and that was before we stopped off at a nearby farm. After a 90 minute drive we arrived at Ox Pasture Hall Hotel.

The driveway down to Ox Pasture Hall Hotel is inviting and as new visitors we couldn’t wait to step out of the car, stretch our legs and explore the grounds. Before we even reached the reception door, We were greeted by a friendly receptionist named Benoit who helped with our luggage and opened the door we were given a really warm welcome by himself and the general manager Jay. They were both interested and made conversation with our children and asked them questions about the journey which made them feel welcome. We were assisted with our luggage and given a tour of the Hotel although throughout my blog I’m going to use the word ‘House’ as the word hotel doesn’t do it justice.(Please read on and I’ll explain why!)

We arrived in our suite and were blown away by the size of the room, the boy’s loved it as much as us, they couldn’t wait to crawl around and explore. The first thing we did when we shut the door was take a look outside the window the views were stunning. This perfectly located retreat is set within the North Yorkshire Moors with such beautiful scenery in and around Ox Pasture Hall be sure to pack your camera as there are plenty of opportunities to capture photographs of the memories your about to make on your short break. The ‘House’ grounds were Pram Friendly and we enjoyed several nice little walks close by. It really is a fabulous place to take photographs and I can imagine when the sunshine is out it’s a lovely place to enjoy sit back relax enjoy the sounds of the birds, breathe in some fresh Yorkshire air with a nice cooled drink from the bar or even a Yorkshire Brew!

All the rooms (32 of them) are named after places in Yorkshire I loved the simple but great idea of this! We were staying in the Ilkley Suite a short walk from the main reception area which meant we didn’t always have Wifi but with 2 little boys who needs wifi?! The room had all the neccesaties you would require for an overnight stay including a tea/coffee making facility, telelvision, hairdryer, iron, and even complimentary gilchrist & soames toiletries in the bathroom, I must admit the bathroom was my favourite part of the room! The rooms were not like a typical hotel room, with people stomping up and down corridors, doors slamming, people wheeling luggage outside your door the rooms were spread out like little lodges throughout the grounds as soon as the room door was closed you felt at home and it was peacefully quiet we literally didn’t hear anything except the sound of the birds singing in the morning which was nice to wake up to.

The bed in the room was huge, All four of us could fit in it with ease! You can never go wrong with a king size bed especially when staying away with children who love cuddles and occasionally like to sandwich in between you during the night…. except in a Kingsize bed there is still plenty room unlike the double bed we currently have at home! My absolute favourite part of the room has to be the bath…. I love a good soak, even though most of the time it gets interupted or I have a couple of little boys who like to join me! The bath was huge, if your having a romantic weekend away I’m sure there would be plenty space for the 2 of you, or if travelling with your family like ourselves Me & The boy’s Harley (3) & Brodie (1) loved having a shared splash about before bedtime! There was also a huge rainforest shower area in the bathroom… talk about spoilt for choice!

The location of Ox Pasture Hall is literally bang in the middle of the popular seaside resorts Scarborough, Whitby, Filey & Bridlington! There are so many wonderful places to see & fabulous things to do that I would definitely recommend a minimum 2-3 night stay if you live quite a distance away. During our visit we took the boy’s to Playdale Farm which was a magnificent day out if your with the children I would definitely recommend a visit. It is about 25 minutes away and there are so many things to do for all the family including grandma & grandad! There is a great animal area where you can stroke the goats, feed the llamas, bottle feed the lambs and hold guinea pigs.

Throughout the farm grounds there are a couple of outdoor play areas and a large indoor play area which has a small area for under 4 year olds and a larger area for older children or adventurous toddlers! There really was plenty to do to keep everybody occupied, they have a large barn full of hay that the children can explore in, there are smaller animals like birds, tortoises and chicks to see, Near the animal feeding station they have a couple of little electric tractors to ride on (£1 charge) and a large playing field area with a zip wire, and frisbee game in the style of mini golf! Perfect for a family competition!

The following day we took a trip over to the wonderful town of Whitby, It’s one of favourite places to spend the day as a family with stunning views and plenty to see and do. We stayed for the day and managed to park up easily in one of the big car parks. If travelling by car I would definitely recommend driving to Pickering and catching the NYMR steam train to Whitby as once again the scenery is simply breathtaking. Throughout our day we hopped on the Whitby Tour Bus, walked around the shops, went crabbing, built sand castles on the beach, wasted hundreds of 2p’s in the amusements and of course went to the famous Magpie for Fish & Chips! You must visit them if decide to take a visit to this magnificent town!

After our busy day we headed straight back to our wonderful room at Ox Pasture Hall and jumped straight into the huge bath (again!) before getting ready for our evening meal in the Courtyard restaurant.

If you love exceptional gourmet food then The Courtyard restaurant is an absolute must. The ambience in the restaurant was really relaxing and calming, they had soft music playing, candles on the table and if your lucky enough to get a table overlooking the grounds then it really is a perfect setting for a meal whether it be a special occasion or simply a treat.

View from our table
Courtyard Restaurant
Starter – Onion Textures
Main – Pan Fried Chicken with Sweet Potato, Leeks & Hazlenuts
Main – Steak with mushrooms & Potato Rosti

The Waiters and waitresses were very attentive and regularly visited the table to ensure our dining experience was first class. The restaurant had a small children’s menu which had the standard children’s favourites garlic bread, sausage & mash, fish fingers etc.. however if your child is a good eater and would prefer a smaller portion off the main menu then the chef was more than happy to accommodate.

We love a pudding but can’t believe we missed out because it was already way passed our boy’s bedtime so we thought we better leave before we disturbed the rest of the guests enjoying themselves. Instead we enjoyed our biscuits provided in the room once they had gone to sleep! Our bed was really comfortable and the boy’s also seemed happy and comfortable in the smaller ‘pop up bed’ and cot which were in the same room as us. If your wishing to use cot provided I would recommend bringing a couple of thick padded blankets for extra comfort. we all had a good nights sleep with no disturbances. Throughout our room we had central heating in each room which was perfect as we could always be in control and we were always at the right temperature, There’s nothing worse than being too hot or too cold.

Another bonus we enjoyed were the Slippers and fluffy robes that were provided in our room which are always nice to help you relax after a long adventurous day wherever or whatever you decided to do!

Ox Pasture Hall is a truly memorable place to stay and seemed an extremely popular Wedding Venue. If your looking for picture postcard photographs, a romantic fairytale wedding, excellent food & a Manager (Jay) who will ensure your visit, stay, or wedding runs smoothy and will go above & beyond your expectations then I can see why Ox Pasture Hall is ranked 3 out of all of the Scarborough Hotels on Trip Advisor!

During our stay there was a Wedding Party, If the bride didn’t walk past us after a recent visit to her room we wouldn’t of even known a Wedding was on, it was a short distance away in a private room near to the reception area held In the Dovecote Suite. I had a sneaky peak in the morning and the room and surrounding area was stunning and so private!
